The Tipping Point
Filed Under Information Products, Marketing Strategy, General, Online Marketing, Online Business Ideas | 2 Comments
While driving to northern California for Father’s Day, I listened to Malcolm Gladwell’s latest book The Tipping Point on Audio CD.
Gladwell has done it again. This time around he looks at social epidemics: who makes them happen, how they work, and why they’re significant.
I can’t think of a single field or industry that couldn’t benefit from Gladwell’s insights in some way. Drawing from sociology, economics, politics, anthropology, psychology, and other interpretive models, Tipping Point sheds light on something we all need to know:
what makes change happen in modern societies? What is the tipping point?
Any other Tipping Point readers out there?

If you don’t yet know about Google Trends, be sure to check it out soon.
Since I learned of the sexy new Google Labs tool a few weeks ago, I’ve made great use of the application several times. Here’s a great example of how Trends can help distinguish between search results (courtesy of Marketallica blog):

Once the bugs are worked out, this will be an excellent online marketing tool!

Coke & Mentos - Lessons in New Marketing
Filed Under General, Marketing Strategy, Online Marketing | 1 Comment
I must get in on this meme…
Coke and Mentos are getting some fantastic publicity lately due to rapidly spreading coverage of videos featuring the plop, plop, fizz, fizz version of these products.
As B.L. Ochman explains at her weblog, Coke’s unfortunate reaction to the free publicity is “a lesson for every brand.”
